What is Fire Cider?

In short, this delicious hot-shot is an age-old herbal remedy to keep flu and colds at bay as a preventative, or to be used when your immune system is bust and you are dragged into bed because you forgot to top it up. This spicy mix of natural organic ingredients boosts immunity, could help clear mucus or sinus infections and could give your lungs a good clean out too. Your circulation could improve, inflammation will be kept at bay, the antiviral and antimicrobial properties could also support healthy gut bacteria in fighting for your good health. Fire Cider is easy to make, and worth having in your cupboard as the flu 'miraculously' makes a comeback.

Grab a 1L mason jar for the following…

Organic (only) Ingredients:

Apple Cider Vinegar (1L)

Onions (2 chopped)

Horseradish (half cup chopped)

Ginger (half cup chopped)

Garlic (8-10 cloves, or one entire garlic bulb)

Peppers (piemento/green and red chili/jalapeno/habanero/cayenne pepper)

Turmeric (half a cup)

Lemon/Orange slices

Rosemary (1 sprig)

Oregano (oil or leaf)

Black Peppercorns (tbsp)

Mustard Seeds (tsp)

Bay leaf (2)

Cloves (4)

How to make it: Step 1: Chop the organic onions, garlic, horseradish, chili peppers, turmeric root, ginger and garlic and set aside in a bowl. Step 2: Make sure you have a clean, sterilised glass mason jar ready. If not, wash your jar under the tap, clean it, and then leave in the oven for 10 mins on 200'C to sterilise it. Don't forget to take off the rubber bit, as that will not like to be baked. :) Step 3: Once cooled, luz all of the the chopped ingredients into the mason jar, then add organic lemon slices and orange pieces, (or grapefruit), fresh organic rosemary, 3 hu oregano oil drops, a teaspoon or two of cayenne pepper, a bunch of peppercorns, cloves, and mustard seeds and take in the most wonderful fragrances! Step 4: Then pour organic apple cider vinegar over the entire mix until it covers it. Leave in a cupboard for 4 weeks and give it a little shake every day or two, to allow the key extracts from the ingredients to infuse the apple cider vinegar.

Step 5: After one month it’s time to seperate the ingredients from the liquid. The liquid is your daily shot. But what happens to all of the ingredients? Can they be used for something else once they have infused our Fire Cider? Yep. You can freeze them for use in a future curry or rice dish, so don't discard them into the recycled food bin once you strain off the liquid.

Note also that you can add a little honey to the final liquid if you deem it too hot. It usually has a sour and spicy taste and never seems to blow my head off, regardless of how many different hot chillies I usually add.

Take daily in a little shot glass, or add the liquid to some luke warm filtered water and drink down if worried about acidity and your teeth.

Enjoy making a large batch for your family and boost your immune system daily. x
